Morningside Heights

A popular neighborhood in Uptown Manhattan, Morningside Heights is famed for its academia. Sometimes referred to as the “academic acropolis” of New York, it is home to Ivy League school Columbia University. Other than college students, Morningside Heights is primarily residential. It is also home to the largest Anglican Church in the world, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

It has a mix of old and new, with trendy spots for students and upscale destinations for longtime residents.

Tom’s Restaurant is the eatery that inspired the song “Tom’s Diner” by Suzanne Vega, and a frequent filming location of the show “Seinfeld”.
Architecture
As one of Manhattan’s most architecturally established neighborhoods, there are an abundance of pre war historical buildings and mid-rise apartment complexes.

Thai Market is one of the few Thai restaurants in the area, and those who have been say it’s the best.

Expect to see lots of college students heading to their classes, and well as families taking relaxing walks in the park.

Since Morningside Heights isn’t a tourist spot, there are mostly beer bars for students and dives for the long standing residents.
